A husband and wife were charged with four felony counts of insurance fraud after falsely reporting their car as stolen and filing a claim. Both faced significant jail time. For the husband, a felony conviction would have resulted in the immediate loss of his TSA-issued security clearance and his job.
Our Strategy
We focused on the stakes for the family, specifically the husband’s career and their lack of a criminal past. By negotiating with the prosecution, we showed that jail and felony records were an excessive punishment for this situation. We successfully got every felony count dismissed for both clients. The husband ended up with a simple infraction and the wife with a misdemeanor. They both walked away with only a small fine and stayed out of jail.
